- Concept of environmental agriculture
- This is to comply with the safe use standards for chemicals, fertilization standards, use appropriate feed additives and appropriate chemical materials, treat and recycle excretion in an appropriate way in order to protect the environment and produce safe agricultural and stock farm products. It includes natural agriculture and organic agriculture and pushes for integrated use of biological technologies, crop rotation, catch cropping and legumes in order to enhance the natural vitality of the earth and reduce contamination in the agricultural environment.

- Basic direction of environmental agriculture
- Environment-friendly agriculture is divided into sustainable low-input agriculture and special agriculture including organic and natural agriculture. Considering the regional characteristics, agricultural areas in plains push for sustainable low-input agricultural policies by emphasizing productivity and quality.
- In water source protection areas, mountainous areas, small-and-medium-sized plain areas and ecology preservation areas, special agriculture including organic agriculture and natural agriculture is pursued, a WTO-backed direct payment system aimed to compensate income losses is introduced, agricultural funds are loaned at low interest rates over a long time and social and administrative support is provided for the facilitated distribution of environmental agricultural products.
- Duck-employed organic agriculture method, an environmental preservation method
-
As Korean agriculture pushes for chemical agricultural methods focused on mass harvesting, environmental destruction and contamination have worsened. As a growing number of people recognize the seriousness of the destruction of natural ecological systems caused by fertilizers, herbicides and chemicals in addition to oxidized soil and water contamination, organic agricultural methods were introduced to resolve the problem. The duck-employed organic agriculture method aims to produce safe foods that can help the public maintain their health and increase the income of farmhouses on the back of the production and sale of clean agricultural products.

- Astragalus-employed organic agriculture method
- The Astragalus-employed agriculture method is an environment-friendly agricultural method, and the seedtime of astragalus is between late August and mid September. Astragalus improves the soil, and its beautiful appearance creates precious agricultural tourist resources.
Hampyeong has Korea’s largest astragalus cultivation area, and Hampyeong Cheonji Astragalus Rice is being branded and sold.
- Golden apple snail agriculture method
- The golden apple snail agriculture method is employed to control weeds through the use of golden apple snails instead of herbicides in order to realize environment-friendly agriculture. Golden apple snails live under the water and are polyphagic. The golden apple snail agriculture method is used to improve the quality of rice and produce contaminant-free rice, but as some researchers argue that golden apple snails affect the environment because they winter in some areas, the method is not widely used.
- Rice bran agriculture method
- Current agricultural methods cause soil oxidation and land contamination due to the heavy use of fertilizers. In this regard, many argue for the necessity for environmental agriculture. Hampyeong is implementing various environment-friendly agricultural methods. Among these, the rice bran agriculture method was initiated in Japan in order to produce contaminant-free healthy rice. This consists of distributing rice bran in rice paddies to induce an increase in effective microorganisms, control weeds and produce a continuous fertilization effect and cultivate rice without using chemicals.
- Microorganism fermentation agriculture method
- Microorganism fermentation compost was first used in Dangjin-gun, Chuncheongnam-do and is has become widely adopted in Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do. The core technology of microorganism fermentation compost is to distribute Solbit No.8 purchased from Korean Organic Agriculture Association in order to control insect pests. 100ℓ of diluted pyroligneous liquid is distributed 3 to 4 times a year, or 100ℓ(10a) of brown rice vinegar is used. Green grass liquid (mugwort, dropwort, wild grass, etc.) is also used. If only compost and rice straw are used to cultivate rice, the initial effect is poor, but it is the best method for producing contaminant-free agricultural products in 2 to 3 years.
